Jamia Hamdard University was established in 1989 and is approved by UGC. Hamdard University is a Ministry of Education maintained deemed-to-be university that is managed by a private trust known as the Hamdard National Foundation (HNF). The deemed-to-be university is accredited with A Grade by NAAC. Jamia Hamdard University is approved by AIU, UGC, and the Ministry of HRD, Government of India. Jamia Hamdard University is also recognized by the MCI, CCIM, INC, AICTE, PCI, and DCPOT, and others. The deemed-to-be university is ranked 96 by NIRF 2023 for MBA.
Jamia Hamdard University, through various schools of study, offers UG, PG, doctoral, and various other courses to students. These courses are provided across the Pharmacy, Management, Engineering, and various other streams. The university has two attached hospitals, a 550 bedded Modem Medicine Hospital and another 150 bedded Unani Medicine Hospital. The deemed-to-be university also offers distance learning courses through the Centre for Distance and Online Education.

Jamia Hamdard University admission to the M.D. course is done based on the AIAPGET score. The university accepts CAT/MAT/XAT/CMAT/ATMA scores for admission to the M.B.A. programme. As per Jamia Hamdard University Delhi admission policy, the final selection of candidates for the M.B.A. course is done after performance in entrance score, personal interview, and group discussion. M.P.T. and M.Sc. (Medical Surgical Nursing, Obstetric & Gynecology Nursing, Mental Health Nursing Psychiatry, Community Health Nursing, and Child Health Nursing Pediatrics) admissions are based on marks obtained by candidates in the entrance exam conducted by the university.
