Alagappa University, Karaikudi was initiated by a Special Act of the Government of Tamil Nadu in May 1985. The University has 44 Departments, 9 Centers, and 2 Constituent Colleges on its campus, 46 Affiliated Colleges located in the districts of Sivaganga and Ramanathapuram. Alagappa University is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India. Currently, the University has been ranked 51 among the South Asian Universities in the QS World Ranking 2023. The University also offers Distance/Online programs in several disciplines.
